Ecorun 2011 had two events. The first event was held on January 1 at Shankhummukham Beach in Trivandrum.  It was a 75 meter race on sand, just above the wet reach line of the tides. Men carried their wives on their shoulders and raced.

The second event of Ecorun 2011 was an ultramarathon to create awareness about the dangers of pesticides. The campaign had the urgency brought on by deaths of hundreds of people resulting from the continuing spraying of the Endosulfan pesticide on a large cashew plantation in Kasargod district. A victim’s disfigured hand is pictured on the banner.
